Growing up in the Pacific Northwest with its beautiful scenery and abundant wildlife Joe was exposed to a historic past that included accounts of Native Americans, Pioneers, Mountain Men, Trappers and more. All of which shaped his love of the subject matter he paints today. Traveling to historic sites, national parks, and the mountains of Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming each year he studies and gathers reference photos and information on the animals and scenery portrayed in his work.
Joe was the 2009 recipient of the CM Russell Museum Auction’s “Ralph ‘Tuffy’ Berg Award” given to the most promising up and coming artist. He was honored to have been invited by the museum to join the Russell Skull Society of Artists 2017 joining a group of twenty-two artists that make up the prestigious society.
In 2011, 2014, 2015 and 2016 he has had seven paintings awarded as finalist in the prestigious Art Renewal Center’s International Salon. He is also a four-time recipient of the People’s Choice Award at the Coeur d’Alene Galleries “Miniatures by the Lake” show and was juried “Best of Show” at the 2015 Western Masters auction held in Coeur d’Alene, ID. He was a featured artist in the book Best of American Oil Painters 2011 and has been featured in publications such as “Fine Art Connoisseur”, “Western Art Collector”, “Art of the West”, “Southwest Art”, “American Art Collector”, “Northwest Sportsman” and “California Sportsman” magazines. His work can be found in numerous private, corporate and public collections throughout North America and is represented in galleries in Jackson, WY, Coeur d’Alene, ID, Bozeman, MT, Red Lodge, MT and Whitefish, MT.
